Dr. Leonard’s Applications Recognized for Their Business Effectiveness

TAMPA, Fla. – Dec. 14, 2005 – AnyDoc® Software, a leading provider of automated document and data capture solutions, announced today that Dr. Leonard’s Healthcare Corp. of Edison, N.J. was honored with a 2005 Process Innovation Award by Kinetic Information LLC. The company, the leader in home and healthcare products for the senior market through its Dr. Leonard’s and Carol Wright catalogs, was recognized for developing a comprehensive solution to accelerate its order entry process, which included AnyDoc Software’s flagship product, OCR for AnyDoc®.

Winners of the ninth annual awards were selected for their process improvements that added value to one or more of the following areas: productivity, profitability, ability to adapt to market conditions, or competitive standing and market share. From 1975 to 2004, Dr. Leonard’s manually entered its order form data into the mainframe. By implementing this solution, the company so far has realized an 80% increase in productivity and annual savings of $500,000.

Dr. Leonard’s, with assistance from AnyDoc value-added reseller CPT Intelligent Technologies, Inc. of Flemington, N.J., combined the use of three disparate elements to automate the data capture from its mail order forms. OPEX mail opening and scanning equipment, OCR for AnyDoc, and Aquracy LLC’s remittance processing/check encoding software were combined to create the solution. For the implementation, CPT developed the OPEX Bridge, a proprietary software tool that links together all three systems.

Mail order envelopes are fed into, and opened by, the OPEX Model 51 Rapid Extraction Desk. The envelope contents – typically an order form and a check – are placed by hand onto a conveyer belt, which transports them into the OPEX AS3600i scanning module. The OPEX separates the order forms from the checks then scans all the documents.

The OPEX Bridge polls for OPEX output and prepares batches for import to OCR for AnyDoc, then passes check images and data to Aquracy. Next, OCR for AnyDoc automatically validates and extracts specific data fields, such as item numbers, quantities and dollar totals from the approximately 20,000 mail order forms the company receives daily, based on Dr. Leonard’s defined business rules.

OCR for AnyDoc also automatically displays customer data for each order. It does so by matching the customer account number on the order form with a lookup table from the Dr. Leonard’s mainframe database. Previously, operators had to perform a query on the customer account number on each order to verify the customer information. With OCR for AnyDoc, the verification process is now virtually automatic except for the correction of any remaining questionable data fields, which are few thanks to the software’s near-perfect data accuracy.

When AnyDoc processing completes, the data and images are then delivered to the Dr. Leonard’s back-end system, and check amounts are passed to Aquracy where the legal amount is balanced and the checks are automatically encoded, endorsed and prepared for bank deposit.
