TAMPA, FL – January 23, 2008 – AnyDoc Software, Inc., a leading provider of automated document and data capture and classification solutions, announced today that the implementation of its core product, OCR for AnyDoc, at the Allegheny County Controllers Office in Pennsylvania, has been selected as an AIIM Carl E. Nelson Best Practices Award finalist.
Presented by AIIM, the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) Association, the Carl E. Nelson Best Practices Award recognizes excellence in the Enterprise Content Management (ECM) field. The term "Best Practices" denotes a standard of excellence that has been achieved within an organization and refers to a process or implementation that can be quantified, adapted, and repeated.
After each county election, Allegheny County faced a grueling challenge – to manually process both its election poll worker and constable payment forms within an extremely tight 72-hour window – and stay within a conservative budget. To be able to achieve its goals (and eliminate the pain of manual processing), the county selected AnyDoc Software’s automated document and data capture solution comprised of OCR for AnyDoc® and AnyDoc®EXCHANGEit™, implemented by Pennsylvania-based reseller, IMR Digital.
“Being recognized by AIIM represents the commitment we have to the residents of Allegheny County,” said Allegheny County Controller Mark Patrick Flaherty. “Our goal is to provide residents with the best possible services but in the most cost-effective way – and IMR helped us accomplish that with the AnyDoc Software implementation.”
The installation of AnyDoc Software’s OCR for AnyDoc® was significant because of the dramatic improvement in efficiency realized during the critical election time period. The AnyDoc solution eliminated time-consuming manual processes including the hand sorting of all incoming forms into one of 1,320 wards (representing 1,320 separate piles of paper) and the hand-keying and manual verification of all of
the information from each payment form.
The solution also provided a bridge between the previously incompatible data formats, enabling data transfer and automatic table lookups without the custom programming previously required. Automated lookups using the poll worker or constable’s unique vendor number stored in the county’s existing JD Edwards database were used to verify the captured data – which was done manually for 100% of the forms received prior to implementation. After implementation of OCR for AnyDoc, more than 50% of the forms did not require any manual intervention at all, with all payment forms processed in one day.
As a result of the AnyDoc implementation by IMR Digital, poll worker and constable payment forms are now processed in less than one-third of the time, saving hundreds of hours of labor costs, and with nearly 85% or 25 fewer employees needed than prior to automation.
AIIM President John Mancini will announce the award winners at AIIM’s Annual Awards Celebration. The celebration is scheduled to be held Tuesday, March 4 at the Boston Harbor Hotel, Boston, Massachusetts. Co-finalists in the large organization category include IBM’s submission for J.B. Hunt and ISITE Design’s submission for Siemens Enterprise Communications.
