Wiesbaden, Germany – January 13, 2009 – AVC Dick GmbH & Co KG, a prescription accounting and document archiving specialist for pharmacies, has selected AnyDoc Software, an industry-leading expert in document classification and data capture solutions, to process its data.  AnyDoc’s award-winning OCR for AnyDoc® replaces AVC Dick’s previous text recognition application, which proved to be too inflexible and inaccurate for AVC’s strict requirements.

AVC Dick is a service provider for pharmacies that specializes in automatic document archiving.  The company offers its customers reliable accounting services and extensive insurance coverage for prescriptions.  In this capacity, AVC Dick acts as an interim financer or factoring business for pharmacies.  Pharmacies send the prescriptions they receive to the computing center, charge the documents to AVC, and receive their money immediately.  AVC Dick then bills the health insurance companies for the prescriptions and is reimbursed the money that it previously paid out.  The pharmacy service provider supplies the services and pays the prescription costs up-front — paying substantial sums of money while doing so— and thus ensures the liquidity of the pharmacies.

Every prescription may only be submitted once to the health insurance company, and subsequent amendments are not possible.  If faulty prescriptions are sent to the health insurance company, AVC faces the risk of heavy financial losses.  To avoid accounting errors, AVC relies on correct and secure collection and processing of prescription data with OCR for AnyDoc.

The previous legacy IT application failed to support this process.  Prescription forms were often not completed fully or correctly.  Different styles of handwriting and typescripts, and individual elements such as the doctor’s personal seal, signatures and handwritten comments were all obstacles that had to be overcome.  These presented considerable difficulties for most software programs.

For AVC Dick, a structured solution alone would not be sufficient.  Prescriptions are usually based on standard forms.  However, as doctors and pharmacists alike do not always stick to the form guidelines — with documents sometimes slanted, with printed text displaced upward or downward, or with ink ribbon errors present – the implemented solution must be both flexible and secure.  In addition, the solution calculates the checksums, date sections or compares the captured data with the master database provided by AVC Dick (health insurance numbers, doctors’ numbers, pharmacy numbers etc.) to ensure that only correct data is issued.

OCR for AnyDoc eliminates most manual processing steps for AVC Dick.  Prescriptions can now be processed faster and more accurately thanks to the electronic processing function.
